The Sixth Edition of the Festival of MU-Varna "Sea and Health" Is to Be Held Online

For the sixth consecutive year Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" - Varna is the initiator and organiser of the Festival "Sea and Health", which, for the first time, is to be held online due to the epidemiological situation.

The previous editions of the sea event have provoked huge interest among the Bulgarian and international participants, and have attracted the attention of a great number of visitors, and the recognition of the European Commission as one of the significant events dedicated to the European Maritime Day.

This year the Festival is being held from 22nd May to 3rd July and is to be broadcast on the channel of University Television MU-Vi Tv, which in 2020 celebrates 5 years of its establishment. The poster of the online edition of the Festival offers a variegated programme of scientific, educational, entertainment and creative events, all of them related to the sea.

On 22nd May scientists and students presented papers dealing with maritime issues and human health, which participated in the first part of the scientific conference "Maritime Research, Innovation and Infrastructure for Public Health Prevention".

The organisers have prepared a rich Festival programme in the online cinema from 15th to 19th June, in the time intervals 09:00-10:00 and 12:00-14:00. University Television MU-Vi has a fascinating selection of films available for the viewers to enjoy.

An online photography exhibition by Petko Momchilov is to be opened on 22nd June at 11:30. The author's exhibition presents breathtaking shots of the sea and maritime life. The selected works include exhilarating moments at the beach, fishing excitements and sea magic.

From 23rd June to 2nd July, in the time intervals 08:30-9:00, 11:30-12:00 and 13:30-14:00, MU-Vi TV is going to broadcast the art studios "Healthier Together and Thinking of the Sea", in which students, lecturers, employees and friends of MU-Varna will have the chance to show their incredible talents. The art studios provide an opportunity to all creative people to express themselves through their favourite pastime hobby associated with the sea – a song, dance, handmade objects, underwater photos and videos from seas and oceans, literary works, paintings, sports activities by the sea, recipes for culinary temptations from seafood or other unsuspected talents affiliated with the sea theme. Those willing to take part are recommended to watch our video challenge and submit their videos to email address: seaandhealth@mu-varna.bg by 7th June 2020. All participants in the art studios will receive a certificate of participation in "Sea and Health 2020".

The finale of the Festival is on 3rd July at 14:00 with the second part of the scientific conference "Maritime Research, Innovation and Infrastructure for Public Health Prevention".

The entire Festival Programme is available here.

On 20th May 2008, the leaders of the European Commission, the European Council and the European Parliament signed a tripartite joint declaration on the annual celebration of European Maritime Day. This day is a recognition of the important role that oceans and seas play in the everyday lives of not only coastal communities but all EU citizens.
