On 20th October, at the age of 77, the highly reputed lecturer, colleague and friend, the beloved physician Assoc. Prof. Ivan Zlatarov, has passed away.
Assoc. Prof. Zlatarov was born on 20th September 1942 in Omurtag. He finished High School in Omurtag, and in 1969 he graduated Medicine at MU-Varna. In 1970 he worked as a hospital practitioner at the surgical department at the hospital in Popovo. In the period of 1971-1972 he was a hospital practitioner in the Labour Hygiene Department at HEI-Varna. From 1974 to 1982 he was Head of the Physiology Laboratory, and from 1982 to 1991 he was Head of the Labour Hygiene Department at HEI-Varna.
In 1981 he defended his Ph.D. thesis on "Assessment of the Functional and Hygienic Conditions of Labour in Major Professional Groups at Devnya Industrial Chemical Plant".
He was habilitated as a Professor in 1992 at the Affiliate Department of Hygiene in Dobrich. From 1992 to 1995 he was CEO of HEI-Varna and an Associate Professor at the Department of Hygiene of MU-Varna (1995-1997). From 1997 to 2000 he was Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Bulgaria and Chief State Sanitary Inspector. Since 2000 he was the Head of the Department of Hygiene at MU-Varna.
The main scientific issues addressed and developed by him were in the field of Occupational Medicine and Labour Physiology.
The entire academic community and the medical community deeply grieve for the man, lecturer, physician, friend Assoc. Prof. Ivan Zlatarov.
