Student from MU-Varna Was Selected as "Young European for 2020"

A student in the programme of Midwifery at MU-Varna was selected as a "Young European for 2020". This prestigious distinction is awarded to young Europeans aged between 18 and 26 years, who have distinguished themselves in support of the international understanding and integration in Europe.

The 23-year-old Mariya Atanasova is a mentor of Roma youth and a member of the European Network for Roma Youth in Bulgaria.

"A few weeks ago I shared the news that I had been nominated for a Young European, along with five other young people. Consequently, I was invited to an interview with the European Commission Representation in Berlin. And today I am very excited to announce that I have been selected as a Young European for 2020," said Mariya.

She is currently conducting an internship in her specialty in Estonia, which due to the responsibilities related to the prize awarded and the commitments associated with it, has to be terminated.

Maria is involved in volunteering and mentoring of Roma youth. She has been working with youth organizations as a volunteer since high school, which provides her with various opportunities.

According to her, volunteering has become more recognizable among young people over the past five years because it provides them with plenty of opportunities to develop themselves and at the same time to be of benefit to society.
