Students at MU-Varna took an active part in a youth initiative on "Health and Ancient Medical Practices in Varna". The project was organized by the «Museum of the History of Medicine - Varna» Association, with the financial support of the Municipality of Varna — Directorate for Education and Youth Activities.

Under the initiative, students of Medical University - Varna, together with lecturers and experts in the History of Medicine, conducted seven thematic studies of ancient medical practices and created short news videos. On a peer-to-peer basis, the future medics held discussions with their fellow students and with groups of students from Varna schools on the seven topics of the studies, namely:

•   Early childhood development — ancient artefacts with contemporary context;

•   Healthy religious cults and medical practices on the ancient lands of Odessos;

•   Ancient and traditional medicine in modern public health;

•  Ancient medical practices — predecessors of health and hygiene control in Varna from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century — basic guidelines and continuity of public health protection and control activities today;

•  Society in the fight for better health;

•  Health advisory stations — a cultural phenomenon in the city of Varna;

•  Contributions of Varna physicians to sea therapy.

Following the completion of the thematic studies, a scientific compendium of reports entitled "From Ancient Times to Modern Public Health" was written, peer-reviewed, and published.

The project also includes a new youth space to implement training programmes to enhance young people's culture of youth entrepreneurship in the history of medicine and health, to build social skills for teamwork, in line with the EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027 and the European Youth Goals related to quality learning, space, and participation for all.

The contemporary role of museums is not only to present history but also to play an active role in modern public life. Therefore, the creation of a youth space for entrepreneurship and health in the Museum of the History of Medicine meets the requirements of the present and provides an opportunity for a more modern and attractive form of training for young people.
