The Department of Periodontology and Dental Implantology provides training for dental students from the 3rd to the 6th year, Bulgarian- and English-language training. The preparation of various teaching aids in Bulgarian and English is underway to optimize the training of students in periodontology and dental implantology, and imaging diagnostics.
The discipline of Periodontology and Dental Implantology is studied in lecture material during the semesters: VI, VII, VIII, IX (schedule 90 hours), and during the same semesters, simulation exercises (VI) are conducted first, and then practical exercises. After successfully passing a practical exam or fulfilling the minimum standard, students take a semester exam during the winter session of the fifth year. For the first time in the country, training of students in Dental Implantology as a separate discipline is being introduced. The training starts in the 9th semester and lasts 2 semesters, with 60 hours of lectures and the same number of hours of practical exercises. During the summer session of the 5th year, students take a semester exam in Dental Implantology. The department also provides training in imaging diagnostics, which is conducted in the 7th and 8th semesters and students take a semester exam in the winter session of the 4th year.
After successfully passing the semester exams in the fifth year of their studies, students conduct a state internship in the discipline "Periodontology and Diseases of the Oral Mucosa" with a duration of 15 days and taking a state exam.
