Биография

Prof. Marieta Georgieva was born in Varna, Bulgaria. She graduated in Medicine from the Medical University of Varna in 1984. Since 1995, she has held academic positions at the same institution, serving as Assistant Professor, Chief Assistant Professor, and later as Associate Professor. In 2006, she earned her Ph.D. and in 2010 she was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Pharmacy.

Since 2013, Prof. Marieta Georgieva has been Head of the Pharmacology and Toxicology Training sector within the Department of Preclinical and Clinical Sciences. In 2015, she became Head of the Department of Pharmacology, Toxicology, and Pharmacotherapy. In 2018, she was promoted to Full Professor.

She holds medical specializations in Clinical Toxicology (1993), Pharmacology (1999), and Clinical Pharmacology (2001). In 1992, she completed postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at the Medical University - Varna and later obtained a qualification in Health Management from the same institution.

Prof. Marieta Georgieva has undergone advanced training in various areas of toxicology and pharmacology at leading institutions in the United Kingdom, France, the Czech Republic, Belgium, and Bulgaria. She has introduced innovative experimental methodologies into practice, including the application of population pharmacokinetic modelling in preclinical drug studies and investigations into the teratogenic effects of pharmaceuticals.​

  • Prof. Marieta Georgieva is the author of more than 60 scientific publications and has participated in more than 60 scientific conferences. She has also published 10 academic textbooks and teaching aids. Her primary research interests include: Drug toxicology, including experimental toxicological models and teratogenicity; Pharmacokinetics and clinical toxicology; Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology; Contemporary drug usage; Biological and Clinical Effects of Bulgarian probiotics; History of medicine.
