Биография

She graduated from the Varna Medical University in 1986. In 1987, after a competitive exam, she was selected as an assistant at the Gastroenterology Clinic. She worked and taught there as an assistant, senior assistant and chief assistant at the educational sector of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition until 2014. In 2015, she was elected as an associate professor in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. Since then, she has been teaching in the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. In June 2024, she was elected for the academic position of Professor of Gastroenterology at the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology and at the University Hospital St. Marina. She also teaches at the Second Department of Internal Medicine. She teaches a lecture course at the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine. She teaches a series of lectures for the postgraduate training course for the state specialty "Gastroenterology" and lectures for the elective subject "Abdominal Ultrasound". She participates in the examination committee for the state specialty Gastroenterology exam at the Commission at the University Hospital "Tsarina Ioanna" ISUL-Sofia. In 1994, she specialized in internal medicine, and in 1996, she specialized in "Gastroenterology and Dietetics." In 2014, Antonia Atanassova, MD defended her scientific and educational degree "Doctor" in the scientific specialty: "Gastroenterology" on the topic "Clinical assessment of ulcerative colitis patients - a modern approach". In 2021, she defended her dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Science on the topic "Serum expression of microribonucleic acids in patients with chronic inflammatory bowel diseases". She has over 200 publications in the field of gastroenterology, numerous participations in scientific forums in Bulgaria and abroad. She is the principal investigator of a project funded by the Science Fund – MU-Varna: “Metabolic syndrome in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases”. 10.2020. Successfully completed and certified in 01.23 She is a subinvestigator in the project "Etiology, clinical picture and diagnosis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in children and adolescents" 21.12.2020 - 21.12.2022. Assoc. prof. Atanassova is the principal investigator in a project No. 23002, which won funding from the Science Fund - MU-Varna: “Research on modern biomarkers in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease”/ FN-13/09.01.24. She is a subinvestigatror in an international project: “Interreg Danube Transnational Programme CD SKILLS – 2019-2022” – Funded by the European Union. She has participated several times as a reviewer in a scientific jury for awarding the academic position of chief assistant, for awarding the scientific and educational degree "Doctor", for awarding the academic position of associate professor and the academic position of professor. The main scientific interests of prof Atanassova are in the field of inflammatory bowel diseases, quality of life in patients with chronic gastroenterological diseases.
