Assoc. Prof. Blagovesta Zdravkova Nanova PhD

 Born on November 28, 1963, in Varna. Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University of Varna in 1988. Worked as a district obstetrician-gynecologist at the polyclinic in Beloslav from 1988-1989. Since 1989, she has been an assistant professor in the Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology. In 1994, he obtained a specialty in "Anatomy, Histology and Cytology", and in 2005 he defended his dissertation on the topic: "Morphological study of pretubular matrix in testes of normal men and rats in an experiment - histological, immunohistological, histochemical and hormonal methods of research" with which he received the degree of Doctor of Medicine. Since 2010, she has been an associate professor in the Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology. Since 2010, she has been the head of the Laboratory sector and has been responsible for the activities of the histological laboratory in the preparation of training preparations and for scientific work. She was responsible for the exhibits in the bone museum in the department. The main scientific developments are related to the morphological studies of male infertility in humans and experimental animals. The teaching activity dates back to Assoc. Prof. Mitkova joined the department in 1989. She teaches 1 st and 2 nd year anatomy and cytology, histology and embryology. Since 2010, she has been giving lectures on "Cytology, Histology and Embryology" to first-year students of the specialties "Medicine" and "Dental Medicine", to second-year students of the specialties "Medicine" and "Dental Medicine". With the introduction of the training of bachelors in the specialty "Midwifery", Assoc. Prof. Blagovesta Mitkova takes over the lecture course for midwives, as well as part of the practical exercises. She also teaches at the affiliates of the Medical University in Veliko Tarnovo, Sliven and Shumen. She gives lectures to first and second year students in the language program, and also conducts practical seminars for students from the "English Language Training Program" majors in "Medicine" and "Dentistry". Upon the establishment of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Assoc. Prof. Blagovesta Mitkova was invited to be part of the academic staff of the faculty as an associate professor in the Department of Clinical and Preclinical Pharmacology, headed by Prof. Krasimir Metodiev, for a period of three years, and during her stay on the faculty she was a member of the faculty council. Specializations: In 1995 – "Immunohistochemical methods in the study of testicular peritubular matrix" at the Institute of Experimental Morphology and Anthropology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, headed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. A. Rusinova. In 1999 – "Immunohistochemical Technique" at the Department of Cytology and General Pathology at the Medical Academy-Sofia, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Al. Popov, MD In 2000 – "Intussusceptive angiogenesis and tumor growth" at the Anatomical Institute, Bern, Switzerland, with the supervisors. Prof. P. Buri. The research work is related to the male reproductive system. The research is in the field of experimental morphology, the influence of exogenous, endogenous factors on the reproductive capabilities of the sexually mature male. In particular, the studies concern the testicular peritubular matrix, the morphological changes influenced by various factors leading to structural and functional changes in the testes. To clarify these changes, various morphological methods have been used - including both routine histological techniques and enzyme-histochemical, histochemical and immunohistochemical methods, as well as hormonal methods to highlight the causes leading to endocrine-related infertility, with a view to the comprehensive study of infertility. The basic and scientific developments are related to morphological studies of male infertility in humans and experimental animals. Another part of the scientific interest is in the field of obesity and tumorigenesis of the pelvic organs. ​
