Dr. Dimitar Gunev is a graduate of the Third High School of Mathematics "Acad. Metodi Popov" in Varna, where he studied biology and English. He completed his secondary education in 2014 and obtained his Master's degree in Medicine from the Medical University “Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" – Varna in 2020.
In the same year, he began his residency in ophthalmology at the University Specialized Eye Hospital for Active Treatment – Varna. Since 2020, he has held the position of assistant at the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, and in 2023 he was appointed full-time assistant professor. In 2021, following a successful competitive examination, he was admitted as a full-time PhD student in ophthalmology. He obtained his specialty in ophthalmology in 2024.
His academic and clinical work focuses on the application of therapeutic contact lenses and their role in improving the quality of life in patients with ocular surface disorders. His scientific interests include visual rehabilitation, personalized approaches to anterior segment pathology, and innovative methods for optical and therapeutic support. He is actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and PhD candidates.
