Prof. Emil Kovachev graduated in medicine in 1998 at the Medical University, Varna and in 2003 acquired a degree in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Until the beginning of 2016 he worked actively in SBAGAL "Prof. Dr. D. Stamatov" Ltd., Varna, and since February 2016 to the present has been the Manager of SBAGAL – Ltd., Varna. Dr. Kovachev obtained the scientific and educational degree "Doctor" from the Higher Attestation Commission with a dissertation on the topic "Prognosis, prevention and treatment of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome in assisted reproductive technologies" in 2011. He was habilitated as an "Associate Professor" at the Department of General Surgery of the Medical University, Varna in 2012. Since 2007, Prof. Kovachev has a Master's degree in Health Management. In 2016, he obtained the scientific degree "Doctor of Medical Sciences" with a dissertation on the topic "Modern approaches in the pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of genital chlamydia in infertile patients". From 2016 to 2024, he was the head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical University – Varna. He is the author of a monographic work "Assisted Reproductive Technologies. Complications and Associated Problems. Endoscopic Methods in Reproductive Medicine", published in 2017. Since 2017, E. Kovachev has been habilitated as "Professor" at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology - Medical University, Varna.
In 2004, a clinical specialization was conducted at Barzilai University Hospital, Israel in the field of assisted reproductive technologies and gynecological endoscopy, and in 2015 and 2019, specializations in gynecological laparoscopy were realized - IRKAD, Strasbourg. From 2023 to the present, he is the Deputy Dean for "Scientific Activities and Career Development" - Faculty of Medicine.
Prof. Kovachev was a Republican Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology for Northeastern Bulgaria from 2013 to 2018.
In 2022, he was awarded the honorary award "Obstetrician-Gynecologist of Bulgaria" at the initiative of the Bulgarian Medical Association and the Bulgarian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
He is the author of over 120 scientific publications and has participated in national and international congresses in the field of obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive medicine.
He was the Chairman of the Bulgarian Association of Sterility and Reproductive Medicine from 2016 to 2018. He is currently the Vice President of the Bulgarian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a member of the Bulgarian Association of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG), the Bulgarian Association of Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery, and the European Society for Reproductive Health (ESHRE).
