Assoc. Prof. Maria Levkova, PhD, MD was born on December 17, 1991, in Varna, Bulgaria. In 2010, she graduated from the First Language High School in Varna and the same year began her medical studies at the Medical University of Varna, which she completed in 2016 as the top graduate of her class.
In February 2017, she was appointed as an assistant at the Department of Medical Genetics and enrolled in a medical genetics residency program. In January 2018, she began her full-time PhD studies. In 2021, she successfully defended her dissertation on the topic "Molecular Genetic and Immunological Biomarkers in Genetic Counseling of Families with Infertility." She has attended specialized courses in Greece and Germany. In 2021, she obtained a medical specialty in Medical Genetics. The same year, she became the first specialist in Bulgaria to successfully pass the exam and receive the European Certificate in Medical Genetics and Genomics. In 2024, she was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor.
She has authored over 40 full-text scientific publications and has participated in more than 50 national and international scientific forums. Her research interests include rare syndromes, reproductive medicine, and pharmacogenetics.
