Assoc. Prof. Kalina Stoyanova was born in 1976 in Varna, Bulgaria. In 1995, she graduated with honours from the Natural Sciences and Mathematics High School-Varna, with biology profile. In 2001 she graduated with honours from the Medical University of Varna acquiring a master's degree in medicine. Since 2002, she has worked successively as an "assistant," "chief assistant," and "associate professor" at the Department of Infectious Diseases, Parasitology, and Dermatovenerеology at the Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" – Varna. She aacquired a specialty in “Medical parasitology" in 2006 and is an outstanding practitioner in the laboratory diagnostic and therapy of parasitic diseases. Dr Stoyanova obtained the educational and scientific degree "Doctor" in Parasitology and Helminthology in 2017 with a thesis on the topic of „Epidemiological Studies and Analysis of Risk Factors in the Distribution of Intestinal Parasitoses with Person-to Person Transmission in Varna District “. She was a course leader for medical students in their fifth year, administrative assistant, and quality manager at the Department. From January 2021, Assoc. Prof. Stoyanova was elected as the head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Parasitology, and Dermatovenerеology.
Assoc. Prof. Stoyanova, conducts teaching activities (theoretical and practical training), including developing and updating of lectures, exercises, and learning materials in the electronic system Blackboard and curricula for the specialties - medicine and medicine - English-taught program in the fifth year at MU-Varna and elective disciplines in "Tropical Medicine" and "Epidemiology of HIV/AIDS" in the fifth year at MU-Varna; nursing and midwife in the first year at MU-Varna and affiliates in Sliven, Shumen, and Veliko Tarnovo; specialized training in "Medical Parasitology; Part I - Medical Protozoology" for "Medical Laboratory Technician," second year, and Medical Parasitology and Part II - Medical Helminthology for third year at Medical College - Varna and the elective discipline "Current Trends in Parasitological Diagnostic in Bulgaria"; public health inspector in the first year of training at MC-Varna; training within the elective discipline "Diseases Subject to International Health Regulations" for students in the specialty healthcare management; as well as practical and theoretical training in postgraduate, continuing, and individual education and specialization courses.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kalina Stoyanova is an invited guest lecturer in the continuing education courses of the Bulgarian Association of Health Care Professionals, Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Association and in the trainings of the specialists from the Regional Health Inspectorate and general practitioners from North-Eastern Bulgaria in the implementation of the "National Program for Prevention and Control of HIV/AIDS and STIs (2021 - 2025)" of the Ministry of Health.
In 2019, she was appointed a member of the National Expert Council on Medical Parasitology for the Ministry of Health, of which she is a current member. In 2022, she was included in the National Expert Specialist Medical Board of Medical Parasitology at the Bulgarian Medical Association.
Assoc. prof. Stoyanova's main professional and scientific interests are in the field of medical parasitology, specifically - epidemiology, clinical aspects, diagnosis, treatment, and control of intestinal, opportunistic, imported, and zoonotic parasitic diseases, as well as the epidemiology of other infectious diseases. She has published three monographs and over 50 articles in international and national scientific journals. Her work has been presented at more than 50 national and international scientific conferences. She has participated in one international and one national scientific project, which she also leads. Rviews monographs, theses, research projects and articles for Bulgarian and international publications.
