Rossen Evgeniev Madjov was born on November 2, 1956 in the town of Balchik. In 1975 he graduated an English language high school in Ruse, in 1983 he graduated medicine in Varna.
In the period 1983 - 1987 he worked as a resident in the Surgical Department of the Regional Hospital - Novi Pazar and in the Regional Clinical Hospital-Varna from 1987 to 1988. He obtained a specialty in surgery in 1988 and in the same year he was an assistant at the Department of Surgical Diseases of MU-Varna. Since 1991 he has been the head of an emergency surgical team. Since 1992 he has been the chief assistant at the Clinic of Biliary-Hepatic Surgery at MU-Varna. Since 1997 he has been responsible for the scientific activities of the Department of Surgical Diseases.
In 1999 defended his dissertation for the degree of "doctor" on the topic: "Studies on the diagnosis and surgical treatment of complications of gallstone disease and reoperations after cholecystectomy". He was habilitated as an associate professor in 2002. Since 2003, he has been the head of the Second Surgery Clinic of the University Hospital "St. Marina"-Varna. In 2007, he acquired a specialty in oncology.
In 2008, he defended his dissertation for the degree of doctor of medical sciences" on the topic: Place and role of biliodigestive anastomoses in the surgery of the extrahepatic bile ducts". In 2009, he was elected professor of surgery.
From 2004 to 2012, he was the vice-rector for two terms for scientific and research activities of MU-Varna. In 2011 obtained a master's degree in health management at the Department of Economics and Health Management. Since 2012, Prof. Madzhov has been the Head of the Department of Surgical Diseases and in the period 2012 - 2020 he has been the Chairman of the General Assembly of MU - Varna.
In 2018 he became a member of the Standing Committee on Health and Sports, NEAA. Since 2020 he has been the Deputy Chairman of the General Assembly of MU - Varna.
He specialized in 1993 at Chaim Sheba Medical Center, Tel Aviv, Israel; in 1994 at Hellenic Anticancer Institution, Athens, Greece; in 2005 he completed Advanced Laparoscopic Training, Aesculap Academy, Germany; in 2006 he specialized in Oncologic Hospital "Regina Elena", Italy, Rome; in 2011 at University Hospital, Hannover, Germany.
