She graduated from the English Language School in Burgas in 1981 with a gold medal for excellent grades (6.00). She graduated from the Medical University of Varna in 1987 as the top graduate with a grade of 6.00 and Hippocrates Medal. Since 1988 she has been an assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacology, since 2008 she has been an associate professor, and since 2015 she has been a professor in Pharmacology. From 2013 to 2022 she was the Head of the Department of Preclinical and Clinical Pharmacology, later renamed as Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. From 2018 to the present, she is the Head of the scientific group "Gastro-entero-hepatoprotection and therapy" in the scientific direction "Nutrition and quality of life" at the Research Institute at MU-Varna. During the period when the department was at the Faculty of Pharmacy, she was the Deputy Chairman of the General Assembly (2008-2013) and Chairman of the Quality Management Committee at the faculty (2010-2013). She has acquired specialties in Pharmacology (1993) and in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (2006). She obtained a master's degree in Healthcare management in 2001. In 2005, she defended a dissertation on the topic "Pharmacological study of Aronia melanocarpa fruit juice" for the acquisition of the educational and scientific degree "Doctor". In 2014, she defended a dissertation on the topic: "Psychopharmacological and organ-protective effects of Aronia melanocarpa fruit juice" for the acquisition of the scientific degree "Doctor of Sciences". Under her leadership, the antioxidant, organ-protective and psychopharmacological activities of biologically active substances of plant origin and of food antioxidants (fruit juice of Aronia melanocarpa and Chaenomeles maulei, extracts of Alchemilla vulgaris and Rosa canina, infusions of leaves and stems of Cotinus coggygria, anethole, eugenol, quercetin, fustin and phenolic acids – gallic, chlorogenic and ferulic) have been investigated. These studies have been conducted in experimental models of inflammation; osteoporosis; inflammatory bowel disease; diet-induced hypercholesterolemia; liver toxicity induced by paracetamol, carbon tetrachloride, and D-galactosamine/lipopolysaccharide; streptozotocin-induced diabetes; ulcerogenesis induced by indomethacin and immobilization stress; amiodarone-induced pulmonary toxicity; cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity; diet-induced metabolic syndrome; anxiety, depression and other behavioral disorders induced by alcohol, reserpine, ovariectomy, social isolation, mild chronic stress, disrupted light circadian rhythm, and olfactory bulbectomy. Other areas of scientific interests of Prof. Valcheva-Kuzmanova are: pharmacological investigations on isolated tracheal smooth muscle; study of antimicrobial and antitumor effects of new molecules (RGD/polyamines, analogues of Bactenecin 2A and lactoferricin); clinical studies with natural products; drug use and pharmacoeconomics. She has participated in 22 projects, one of which is international. She was the scientific manager of 10 of the projects. She is the supervisor of 13 doctoral students, of whom 12 have currently successfully defended their dissertations. She was the scientific advisor of two doctoral students. She teaches the disciplines "Pharmacology" and "Clinical Pharmacology" to students of specialty Medicine, "Pharmacology" to students of specialty Dentistry, "Basics of Pharmacology and Pharmacoeconomics" to students of specialty Healthcare Management (bachelor) and "Pharmacology" to students of specialty "Nurse". She also teaches "Basics of Pharmacology" in the master's program in Healthcare Management and the disciplines "Drugs and their influence on the human body", "Pharmacoeconomics" and "Drug Development and Drug Safety" in the master's program in Pharmaceutical Management and Care. She has over 180 full-text publications in international and Bulgarian journals. She has over 260 participations in scientific forums in Bulgaria and abroad, of which over 220 abstracts have been published in scientific journals and collections. Her publications have over 2000 citations in the scientific literature and have an impact factor of over 100. She participated in the publication of 37 textbooks and teaching manuals in pharmacology, clinical pharmacology and pharmacoeconomics for students of the specialties "Medicine", "Dental Medicine", "Pharmacy", "Healthcare Management", "Pharmaceutical Management", "Nurse", "Midwife", "Medical Cosmetician" and "Rehabilitator". Of these, 9 are in English. She is the sole author of 5 textbooks and teaching manuals, co-author and editor of 20, and co-author of the remaining 12 textbooks. She is the co-author of 2 monographs.
