Биография

Lora Vasileva Veleva graduated from First Language High School in Varna with honors in 2016. In 2023, she graduated from the Medical University of Varna with a master's degree in Medicine as the valedictorian of her class. In September 2023, she was elected as a part-time assistant at the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, and in May 2024, she was appointed as a full-time assistant professor. Since December 2023, she has been a full-time doctoral student, and since September 2024, she has been a resident in Anatomy, Histology, and Cytology. She is fluent in German and English.

Dr. Veleva participates in conducting practical seminars for medical, dental and pharmacy students from the Bulgarian and the English language programs in the subjects of Human Anatomy and Histology, and Cytology, General Histology and General Embryology, as well as within lecture course of the elective discipline "Neurobiology".

Her main scientific interests lie in the fields of neurobiology, in particular neurogenesis and neuronal stem cells, embryology, and epigenetics. She is experienced in different histological and molecular methods (immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, RNA in situ hybridization; RT-PCR, PCR), and has competence in digital methods for image acquisition, image processing, and analyzing microscopic and biomedical images.

Lora Veleva has been a part of five scientific research projects, funded by the Science Fund of the Medical University of Varna: “Comparative analysis of gene expression in the germinative zones of a primate brain with different capacities for neuronal regeneration" (21020), “Expression and effects of the apelinergic system in the subventricular zone of mammals" (22020), “A platform for three-dimensional (3D) visualization, reconstruction and analysis of the microcirculatory bed" (22017), “Analysis of the expression of long non-coding RNA in neurogenic niches of the primate brain" (24002), and “Discovery of novel markers for progenitor cells in the adult primate brain through analysis of genes with increased postischemic expression in the stem cell niches" (24026). Since 2024, she has been involved as a young scientist (R1) in the project “Creation of a commercial platform for the application of virtual microscopy in educational and scientific activities and developments (ViRMiC)", part of “Medical University - Varna: Enhancement of Translational Excellence Achievement in Medicine (MUVE-TEAM)".
