He entered the Medical University of Varna as a medical student (2004 – 2010). After graduating, he started working as an orthopedist – traumatologist at the St. Anna Hospital – Varna AD. In 2016, he successfully defended his dissertation on the topic "Modern aspects of diagnostics and treatment of ligamentous injuries of the lateral column of the ankle joint" and acquired the scientific and educational degree "Doctor of Medicine". He successfully defended his master's degree in Health Management in 2017. He specialized in ankle and foot surgery with: Prof. Fabian Kraus – Inselspital, Bern, Switzerland and Prof. Kajatan Kloss – Katholisches Klinikum Mainz, Germany. He completed a two-month specialization at the AO Research Institute Davos, Switzerland with a specific focus - Diagnosis and treatment of Lisfranc injuries. Project leader "Development of a diagnostic and therapeutic algorithm for patients with acute anterior-lateral ankle instability" funded by the Ministry of Education and Science. He holds certificates for sonography, arthroscopy, etc. Active participant with reports at numerous scientific forums both in Bulgaria and abroad. Member of the Board of Directors of the Regional College of BMA – Varna. Dr. Preslav Penev has scientific interests primarily in the field of ankle and foot pathology.
