Dr. Simona Anzhel Georgieva graduated with honors in Medicine in 2016 from the Medical University – Varna, and in the same year, she was admitted as a resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology, with her training based at SBAGAL Varna. Since 2017, she has been an assistant at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical University – Varna and won a competitive position for a full-time PhD. Since 2022, she has been a senior assistant professor. Since 2014, she has been training and later became a team member at the Medical Center for Assisted Reproduction (MCAR) "Varna", where she currently works as a reproductive specialist.
For two years, she was a research associate at the University of Helsinki and took part in the development of a scientific study through research and analysis of complications after assisted reproduction, using data provided by 11 Helsinki clinics. The study was later presented at the international congress of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) in 2018, and in 2022, it was published in the Scandinavian journal Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, becoming the most read article in Wiley in the first 12 months after publication.
Dr. Georgieva has attended numerous specialized courses in the field of ultrasound and Doppler diagnostics, and in 2019, she successfully passed the exam of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), earning a certification as a "Clinical Embryologist." In 2021, she obtained a PhD with a dissertation on the topic “Ovarian response, embryo quality, and ectopic pregnancy." Since 2021, she has participated in various courses and specialized scientific conferences in Bulgaria and abroad, covering topics such as high-risk pregnancy, prenatal diagnostics, and individualized IVF treatment aimed at improving ART outcomes and ensuring safer treatment profiles. In 2024, she published a monograph titled “Monitoring Pregnancies After Assisted Reproductive Technologies – Risks, Complications, and Recommendations for Prevention."
Her scientific and professional interests focus on assisted reproductive technologies, high-risk pregnancies, early pregnancy complications, and the impact of ART on postnatal development.
Dr. Georgieva is a member of the Bulgarian Association for Sterility and Reproductive Health (BASRH), the Bulgarian Association for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG), and the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), and actively participates in both national and international scientific forums.
