Биография

Assoc. prof. Iliyan Todorov was born on 19.10.1987 in the town of Gabrovo. In 2006, he graduated from the Natural Sciences and Mathematics High School in his hometown, specializing in biology. He obtained his higher medical education at the Medical University of Varna in 2012. In early 2013, after successfully passing a competitive exam for the position of assistant, he was appointed to the Department of Infectious diseases, Parasitology and Dermatovenereology (Department of Infectious diseases, Epidemiology and Parasitology and Tropical medicine, at that time) and to the Clinic of Infectious diseases, St. Marina Hospital. Four years later, in 2017, he obtained a specialization in infectious diseases. In 2020, he successfully defended his dissertation (PhD) on the topic of “Serum amyloid A protein changes the course of some virus-caused infectious diseases". Since 2021 he has held the position of “chief assistant", and as of July 2024, he holds the academic position" Associate Professor" in the scientific specialty “infectious diseases".

Assoc. Prof. Todorov conducts practical training in infectious diseases for medical students – Bulgarian and English course of education, dental medicine, public health inspectors, medical laboratory assistant, nursing and midwifery. He delivers a lecture course in the specialty to the students from the English-language program. He participates during the state internship in infectious diseases with training seminars, as well as in the elective course on Tropical Medicine. 

As a part of his post-educational qualification, Assoc. Prof. Todorov obtains certificates, confirming completed training on various issues related to infectious diseases. He actively participates in the annual conferences organized by the Bulgarian Society of Infectious Diseases, as well as in various scientific interdisciplinary meetings with the participation of gastroenterologists, pediatrics, general practitioners, etc.

He has more than 40 publications related to main topics in the field of infectious diseases. He is the author of one monograph (habilitation thesis) entitled “Clinical course, severity and prognosis of COVID-19 in patients with comorbidity".
