About the area​

Albena is a Black Sea resort situated north from Varna and south from the old-style town Balchik. It has been originally built as a resort 60 years ago and has a uniform and unique architectural style. The resort is 5-km long, 150 m wide beach with fine sand. Sea depth does not exceed 1.6 metres at a distance up to 100–150 metres from the beach. The beach in Albena is one of the best beaches in Bulgaria. Albena has been awarded the Blue Flag eco-label for the purity of the sea, the beach and the surrounding territory. The tourist season lasts from May untill October. In addition to its excellent beaches and relaxing environment, Albena offers proximity to the picturesque seaside town Balchik and Cape Kaliakra – the easternmost point of the continental EU. Albena is 30 km from Varna Airport - trip duration 30 min.​

REGISTRATION


For registration click here​

  • The registration will be open until May 15, 2025.
  • The total number of registrations will be limited to 120 (first come first serve basis).
  • The registration form includes an option to submit an abstract, the guidelines for which are in the form.
  • Selected abstracts will be invited for short-talks. The presenting co-author of each of these abstracts will receive a travel and an accommodation grant covering 100% of their travel and accommodation expenses.
  • Abstracts will be accepted under the condition that at least one co-author is registered for the meeting.
  • All confirmed registered participants will receive conference materials without fee.​


 

ABSTRACTS


•  Abstracts can be submitted during the filling of the registration form.
•  The abstract guidelines are in the form.
•   Posters should be 70cm wide x 100cm high (portrait format).
•   Selected abstracts will be invited for short-talks. The presenting co-author of each of these abstracts will receive a travel and an accommodation grant covering 100% of their travel and accommodation expenses.
•   Abstracts will be accepted under the condition that at least one co-a​uthor is registered for the meeting. ​

We offer the following hotels: Flamingo Grand 5* and Flamingo 4*.

​ EXCURSIONS

We propose the following excursions (subject to numbers) that will take place in the lunch breaks (12-16h) on June 6 and 7 (days 2 and 3 of the meeting):

​

1. Balchik – The Silver Coast of Bulgaria (with English speaking guide; €29/person)

6th June and/or 7th June at 12.30 pm - Pick up from Flamingo Grand Hotel. Drive to the town of Balchik. On arrival, a guided tour of the Botanical Gardens and the Palace of Queen Mary of Romania.

The palace is situated in a 10 ha park where we can find more than 2,000 species of flowers and cacti. What makes the Botanical Gardens so special is not only the variety of flora, but also the idea of the whole complex. The Botanical Gardens were created on the territory of the former park - part of the palace built between 1926 and 1937, during the Romanian control of the region, for the needs of Queen Marie of Romania. The palace complex itself consists of a number of residential villas, a smoking room, a wine cellar, a power station, a monastery, a holy spring, a chapel and many other buildings.

At 15.30 pm – Return to the Flamingo Grand Hotel.


2. Cape Kaliakra - The Silver Coast of Bulgaria (with English speaking guide; €30/person)

6th June and/or 7th June at 12.30 pm - Pick up from Flamingo Grand Hotel. A visit to Cape Kaliakra and a walk along the picturesque natural reserve - associated with many legends. On the way, visit to the Ethnographic House in Kavarna. On the way back to Albena – visit of a potter's workshop.

Kaliakra is one of the most beautiful and historic capes in Europe. The fortress was successively used by the Thracians, Romans, Byzantines and Bulgarians. Seventy metres above the sea level, the cape blocks the way of the waves and turns the wide bay of Kavarna into a quiet haven. Translated from Greek, Kaliakra means the beautiful nose. Kaliakra is a nature reserve where dolphins and cormorants can be seen. 

At 15.30​ pm – Return to the Flamingo Grand Hotel.
