Zhivko Bliznakov was born in Varna, Bulgaria. In 1991, he graduated with honours from the 2nd Mathematical High School "Dr. Peter Beron" in his hometown. In 1996, he graduated as an Electrical Engineer majoring in "Electronic Technology and Microelectronics", Technical University of Varna, Bulgaria. As part of a project under the TEMPUS III program, he continued his studies in Greece and in 1998 received a MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Patras, Greece. He followed a doctorate in the same field and in 2003 he successfully obtained his PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering and Technology from the University of Patras, Greece.
During the period 2004 - 2015, he worked as a researcher in the scientific group of Biomedical Technologies, in the Laboratory of Medical Physics at the University of Patras, Greece. He was also a Head of the Department of Medical Equipment Management at the Institute of Biomedical Technologies, Patras, Greece.
In 2016, he returned to Bulgaria and during the period 2016 - 2019 worked actively as a researcher in the research Laboratory for Computer Simulations in Medicine at the Technical University of Varna, Bulgaria. During the same period, he was a Head of the Centre for National and International Projects at the same university.
Since 2019, Zhivko Bliznakov has been working at the Medical University of Varna, Bulgaria. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at the Department of "Medical Equipment, Electronic and Information Technologies in Healthcare", Faculty of Public Health, at the Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" - Varna, Bulgaria and Deputy Director of the Centre for Simulation Techniques and Medical Equipment at the Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" - Varna, Bulgaria.
