Acquired specialty in Biochemistry, Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" Varna – 2018

Master's degree in Biology, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" – 1994

Academic Degrees and Positions:

Chief Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine and Nutrigenomics, Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" – Varna – since 2016

PhD in Biochemistry, awarded on 26 October 2015, Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" – Varna

Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine and Nutrigenomics, Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" – Varna; from 2011 to 2016

Areas of professional interest:

Biochemistry; Molecular biology; Molecular mechanisms of oxidative stress and inflammation; Screening of medicinal plants for various biological activities; Investigation of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulation, antidiabetic effects of plant extracts by in vitro and in vivo methods.

Research Activities:

Investigation of the biological activity of a 40% aqueous-ethanol extract of black mulberry (Morus nigra) wood in a cell culture model by: determining the total polyphenol content and antioxidant activity of the extract; determining the effect on the viability of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and J744A.1 macrophages.

Investigation of the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of the aqueous-ethanol extract by monitoring its influence on the transcription levels of genes related to oxidative status, pro-inflammatory cytokines and enzymes under conditions of t-BotOOH-induced oxidative stress and LPS-induced inflammation.

Investigation of the antiobesity potential of an aqueous-ethanol wood extract of M. nigra by determining the expression levels of genes related to lipid metabolism in differentiated adipocytes.
