Born on April 17, 1981 in Burgas. In 2003, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biotechnology from the University "Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov" - Burgas, and in 2006 she obtained a master's degree in Biotechnology from the same university. She also obtained two more master's degrees in Organic chemistry at the Bishop Konstantin Preslavski University of Shumen and since 2022 she has been a master of pharmacy, graduating with a degree in Pharmacy at the Medical University of Varna, Faculty of Pharmacy. Since 2019, Prof. Fotkova acquired a specialty in "Analysis of Medicinal Products" at the Medical University - Sofia. She defended a dissertation thesis for the acquisition of PhD degree in the specialty "Pharmaceutical Chemistry" in 2011.
Her professional development began in 2008 with the appointment of an assistant professor at the Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarov University - Burgas, Medical College, Department of Pharmacy. In the period 2012 - 2013, Prof. Fotkova held the position of "assistant" at MU-Varna, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy at the Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" Varna, and in 2013 she won a competition to hold the position of "associate professor" in the same department. During the period 2014 - 2018 she was elected Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Management, Faculty of Pharmacy at MU-Varna, and from 2018 to 2022 she was Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
From 04.07.2024 she was elected Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy.
She has over 60 scientific publications in Bulgarian and foreign scientific journals with over 150 citations by Bulgarian and foreign authors. She has participated in 15 projects, two of which were commissioned by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Bulgarian National Science Fund. The main scientific developments are in the field of medicinal substances with estrogenic activity, prediction of the reactivity of substances with estrogenic activity; prediction of the toxic effects of substances with estrogenic activity; risk assessment of various organic compounds and newly synthesized pharmaceutical products; creation of a database on the reactivity of organic compounds and pharmaceutical products.
