Molecular biomarkers for personalized medicine

·     Methyl malonic acid and 25-hydroxy vitamin D3 as novel biomarkers for determining functional vitamin B12 and vitamin D3 deficiencies during pregnancy

·     Role of GLA-proteins as potential biomarkers for cardiovascular calcification

·     Molecular biomarkers to assess bone disease in multiple myeloma

·     Salivary biomarkers to assess the risk profile of childhood gingival health

Non-classical effects of fat-soluble vitamins and their role in the prevention and course of chronic non-communication diseases (NCD).

·     Development and validation of LC-MS methods for determining serum levels of fat soluble vitamins and their active forms, aminoacids, methyl malonic acid in biological fluids.

·     Vitamin D status of patients with cardiac diseases and its relationship with functional parameters for cardiovascular health and vascular calcification.

·     Vitamin D status of risk groups of patients (with chronic hepatitis C virus infection (HCV), prostate cancer, chronic kidney disease) and its interrelationships with clinical-laboratory and prognostic parameters for the course of the diseases in view of the expediency of including vitamin D as preventive and/or complementary additive to the main therapy.

·     Bioavailability of 25-hydroxy vitamin D in normal-weight and obese pre-pubetral healthy children and its relationship with insulin sensitivity, total cholesterol, parathyroid hormone and anthropometric parameters assessing adipose tissue accumulation with the aim of early detection of vitamin D deficiency in childhood and the possibility of supplementation with vitamin D preparations to prevent the risk of developing chronic diseases in adulthood in the pathogenesis of which the endocrine axis of vitamin D is involved.

·     Vitamin D status in children with acute diarrhea and its relationship with dietary zinc intake, etiology, intensity and risk factors of the diarrheal syndrome.

·     Functions of vitamin K beyond hemostasis and its role in bone health in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis and in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and bone disease;

·     Role of vitamin K-dependent Gla proteins as inhibitors of vascular calcification and as predictive biomarkers for the risk of vascular calcification in CVD patients.

·     Role of the vitamin K-dependent Gla protein osteocalcin in the regulation of glucose homeostasis and energy metabolism in experimental models of metabolic syndrome.

·     Fractionation, purification and chromatographic determination of phytochemical composition and antioxidant activity of medicinal plant extracts to study their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
