Assoc. Prof. Velichka Andonova, Ph.D., was born on 19.07.1973 in Pazardzhik. She graduated from the High School of Mathematics "Acad. Kiril Popov" - Plovdiv in 1991. She obtained a master's degree in the regulated profession Pharmacy at the Medical University - Sofia in 1996. In 2012, she acquired a specialty in "Drug Technology with Biopharmacy", and in 2014, the educational and scientific degree "Ph.D." in the doctoral program "Technology of Dosage Forms and Biopharmacy", professional field 7.3 "Pharmacy", in the higher education field 7. Health and Sports, with a dissertation titled: "Nanoparticles with Indomethacin – drug-releasing systems for ophthalmic application".
She attended two postgraduate courses at the Faculty of Public Health of Medical University - Sofia in 2010, and two Colorcon courses in Budapest (2010) and Paris (2012). In 2022, under the project BG05M20P001-2.016-0025 “Creating of a multidisciplinary educational environment for development of specialists with integral competencies in biomedicine and health care" under the Operational Program "Science and Education for Smart Growth", co-financed by the EU through the European Structural and Investment Funds, she completed a three-month mobility at Ovidius University, Constanta, Romania.
Assoc. Prof. Andonova's professional path includes both wholesale and retail pharmaceutical trade and an academic career. Between 2005 and 2018, she held the academic positions of "Assistant Professor" and "Chief Assistant Professor" at the Medical University - Plovdiv, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Since 2018, she has been an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical University - Varna. Since March 2020, she has been Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Technologies. From 2020 to 2024, she served as Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs, Accreditation, and Quality at the Faculty of Pharmacy. She delivers lectures in the subjects "Technology of Dosage Forms" and "Biopharmacy and Pharmacokinetics" for Pharmacy students, and "Drug Technology with Biopharmacy" for Assistant Pharmacist students at the Medical University - Varna.
She is a co-founder of the Foundation "Pharmacy".
She has authored over 80 scientific publications and participated in more than 60 scientific events. Her main research interests and projects lie in the field of pharmaceutical nanotechnology and the development of optimized drug delivery systems. She has published a monograph entitled "Obtaining Polymer Nanoscale Drug Delivery Systems". She has led and participated in more than 10 research projects.
