Professor Zlatareva is a Doctor of Medicine with a specialty in Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, and scientific specialties in Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy. She is the author of four published books and numerous scientific articles in Bulgarian and international journals. She has over 20 years of leadership experience in healthcare and pharmaceutical policy, market access, and regulatory issues, including medicines, medical devices, and in vitro diagnostic devices.
In recent years alone, she has created and managed over 10 projects and participated in 8 projects aimed at improving the healthcare environment at both local and regional levels. She has built an extensive network of stakeholders and decision-makers, including representatives from local, regional, and European institutions.
Professor Zlatareva is the initiator of the now officially recognized non-clinical specialty “Regulation and Provision of Medical Devices."
She has expertise in drug and health policy, including areas related to medical devices and in vitro diagnostic medical devices, both nationally and at the European level. Her experience covers scientific research, academic teaching, negotiations and advocacy, strategic planning, development and promotion of strategies, cooperation with institutions at the national, public, local, regional, and European levels, project development and implementation, extensive healthcare networking, and participation in national and international health policy discussions.
Professor Zlatareva has held leadership roles in leading American pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer and MSD, where she managed projects for Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Kosovo, and the Western Balkans. She served as Vice Governor of the National Health Insurance Fund, member of the National Pricing and Reimbursement Commission, member of the National Commission for the Accreditation of Health and Hospital Facilities, advisor to the Parliamentary Health Committee, consultant to university hospitals on drug policy, member of the Health Committee of the Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria, member of the AmCham Health Committee, and member of the Bulgarian Medical Association and ISPOR, among others. Professor Zlatareva is also a founder of a medical center for clinical trials and is certified in clinical trial site management.
