Danko Georgiev earned his M.D. from Medical University of Varna, in 2004. He earned his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences for his thesis "N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor and γ-aminobutyric acid type A receptor signaling in P19 neuronal differentiation" at Kanazawa University, Kanazawa, Japan in 2008. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow on the molecular pathogenesis of schizophrenia in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurobiology at Kanazawa University from 2008 to 2013, and on the effects of bexarotene in Alzheimer's disease in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States from 2014 to 2015. He investigated the foundations of quantum mechanics as a visiting researcher at the Mani L. Bhaumik Institute for Theoretical Physics at the University of California, Los Angeles, United States in 2023. He was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine and Nutrigenomics at the Medical University of Varna from 2024.
