Scientific and research activities:

Fractionation, purification and determination of phytochemical composition and antioxidant activity of extracts from fruits of Sambucus ebulus and other medicinal plants in order to study their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects in experimental models of lipopolysaccharide-stimulated inflammatory response in macrophage cell cultures. Analyzing the molecular mechanisms of the cytoprotective, immunostimulating, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant action of acetone extracts of Sambucus ebulus. Analyzing and evaluating the biochemical changes and the changes in the transcriptional levels of selected molecules, by applying modern molecular biological methods.

Development and validation of chromatographic methods for determining serum levels of the circulating form of vitamin D – 25-hydroxy vitamin D. Study of vitamin D status in patients with cardiac diseases.

Study of the effect of some cyanotoxins released during the bloom of cyanoprokaryotes on the incidence of cancer in the Bulgarian population. Cytotoxicity assessment of cyanotoxins in cultured human epidermal cell lines.

Biotransformation of pharmaceuticals with estrogenic activity from wastewater and soil using immobilized enzymes from Trametes versicolor.
