The governing bodies of the Department of Pharmaceutical Technologies are:
1. Departmental Council
2. Head of Department
Head of Department: Assoc. Prof. Velichka Yordanova Andonova, PhD, Master of Pharmacy
The Departmental Council consists of all members of the academic staff employed under a primary employment contract.
The Council makes decisions regarding the organization of the educational process, updates and approves new curricula, and elects the department head.
The Departmental Council has the following responsibilities:
1. Develops and submits to the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Pharmacy plans and programs related to the organization of teaching and research activities.
2. Proposes promotions of non-habilitated faculty members to the Faculty Council.
3. Conducts internal defenses of doctoral dissertations and proposes the initiation of official defense procedures.
4. Proposes to the Faculty Council the announcement of competitions for assistant professors, associate professors, and professors, as well as visiting lecturers.
5. Organizes the educational and teaching activities within the department.
6. Discusses issues related to the department's material base and proposes updates to the Faculty Council.
7. Submits proposals to the Faculty and Academic Councils for regular doctoral studies based on pre-approved topics.
8. Reviews the progress of full-time and independent doctoral students at least twice a year.
9. Conducts an annual review of the department's scientific activities and those of its academic units.
10. Reviews the results of examination sessions and discusses the methodology for semester and state exams at least once a year.
11. Upon proposal by the Council and academic units, habilitated lecturers from other departments and accredited medical institutions may participate in state exam commissions.
12. At least once a year, evaluates the department's work with postgraduate students and prepares a report for the Vice-Rector for University Hospital Coordination and Postgraduate Training.
The Head of Department:
1. Represents the department before the Faculty Council and the Academic Council of the Medical University – Varna.
2. Chairs the meetings of the Departmental Council.
3. Coordinates with related units within the Faculty of Pharmacy.
4. Reports periodically to the Departmental Council on the department's activities.
5. Manages and oversees the educational and research activities of students, doctoral students, and postgraduate trainees.
6. Ensures regular curriculum updates and proposes new programs, which are adopted by the Council and submitted to the Faculty Council for approval.
7. Submits proposals to the Faculty Council for announcements for new assistant professor positions, promotions in scientific ranks, habilitation procedures, visiting lecturers, and doctoral or postgraduate opportunities.
8. Proposes members of examination committees, signs leave requests, and approves travel reports.
9. Initiates discussions on general issues concerning the department's academic sectors.
10. Proposes to the Vice-Rector for Research the publication of textbooks, guides, and monographs by department members and selects the required reviewers.
11. All instructors from related disciplines in the Faculties of Medicine, Dental Medicine, and Pharmacy participate equally in educational, scientific, and staffing matters. Heads of the main departments are responsible for keeping them informed about departmental council meetings (they do not vote under the Higher Education Act).
