Prof. Dimitar Georgiev Stavrev, MD, PhD, DSc was born in the city of Varna, where he completed his secondary education. He completed his higher education in medicine in 1987 at the Higher Medical Institute - Varna. He defended his academic degree of Doctor of Medicine in the scientific specialty: "Anatomy, Histology and Cytology" in 2011 with a dissertation on the topic "Remodeling of the main arteries and veins of the thigh in peripheral arterial disease of the lower limb" and his academic degree of Doctor of Sciences in the scientific specialty "Medicine of Disaster Situations" in 2021 with a dissertation on the topic "Medical aspects of water traumatism at sea". Dr. Stavrev acquired a Medical specialty in "Anatomy, Histology and Cytology" at the Higher Medical Institute - Sofia in 1993. In 2015, he held the position of Associate Professor in the specialty of Anatomy, Histology and Cytology in the professional field of Public Health at the University of Ruse Angel Kanchev, Associate Professor in 2016 and Professor in 2022 in the scientific specialty of Disaster Medicine (Marine Medicine) at the Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" - Varna.

The professional development of Dr. Dimitar Stavrev began as a district pediatrician at the Municipal Hospital - Gen. Toshevo. In 1990, after winning a competition, he taught at the Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" - Varna, successively as Assistant, Senior Assistant, Chief Assistant, Associate Professor and Professor. Prof. Stavrev's publishing activity includes more than 200 publications, including 17 books, teaching aids and monographs. Some of them are of a unique nature, such as the first academic textbook on Maritime Medicine and a collection dedicated to the patron of the Medical University “Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov"- - Varna. He is the author of numerous curricula for training in Anatomy for medical students, nurses, midwives, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, as well as programs in Marine Medicine, Marine Health, medical care of marine facilities and coastal areas and history of medicine.
