Биография

Assoc. Prof. Maria Rohova completed secondary education at the First Language High School with English and German language teaching in Varna. In 1999, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Marketing and Management, and in 2001, she completed a master program in Business Management at the University of Economics - Varna. In 2015, Maria Rohova defended her doctoral thesis on Reducing Inequalities in Access to Health System at the University of Economics - Varna and obtained a Ph.D. in Social Management in the professional field of Administration and Management.

In 2006, Maria Rohova obtained a specialty in Medical Informatics and Health Management at the Medical University - Varna. She has completed training courses and specializations in the fields of healthcare management, healthcare financing, quality and patient safety, migration of health professionals in Bulgaria, Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria, and Slovenia.

Assoc. Prof. Maria Rohova commenced her academic career in 2002, when, after winning a competition, she became a full-time Assistant Professor at the Department of Health Economics and Management, Faculty of Public Health. Between 2002 and 2016, she held the positions of Assistant, Senior, and Chief Assistant Professor, and in 2016, she became a full-time Associate Professor at the same department. In 2017, she was appointed Head of the Teaching Sector of Healthcare Management, Health and Drug Policy, and since 2019, she has held the position of Head of the Health Economics and Management Department. Since the beginning of 2020, Maria Rohova has been a member of the Supervisory Board of the Medical University - Varna.

Assoc. Prof. Maria Rohova holds lectures and seminars in the bachelor and master programs in Healthcare Management, Pharmaceutical Management, Optometrist, Rehabilitation, Wellness and Spa, Public Health. She is involved in the training of PhD students in Organization and Management in Healthcare, as well as graduate students in Medical Informatics and Healthcare Management. Assoc. Prof. Maria Rohova is a member of the State Examination Board in Medical Informatics and Healthcare Management. She is a lecturer in professional training and postgraduate courses in Healthcare Management, Drug Policy and Market Access, Dental Assistant, etc.

Since 2002, Maria Rohova has participated in more than 20 national and international projects funded by the European Commission, World Health Organization, UNICEF, World Bank, Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Open Society Foundation, Bulgaria, etc. She is the coordinator of two research projects funded by the Fund 'Nauka' of Medical University - Varna. She is involved in the Health Systems Policy Monitor (HSPM) and COVID-19 Health Systems Response Monitor (HSRM) expert networks of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies; a member of the working group Hospital Care the Ministry of Health (2018); and chairman of the working group Healthcare Reforms at the Advisory Council 'Partnership for Health' to the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria (2015-2018).

 

Публикации

​​Assoc. Prof. Maria Rohova is the author of over 80 scientific publications with more than 700 citations; author or co-author of seven books and one textbook. She has participated in over 30 scientific conferences, congresses, and symposia in Bulgaria and abroad. Her main research areas are related to health system analysis and performance assessment, health reform, health inequalities and health inequities, access to health services, mobility of health professionals, and health system resilience.

Assoc. Prof. Maria Rohova is an academic editor and member of the editorial board of PLOS ONE (since 2023), a member of the editorial board of the Health Economics and Management Journal (2018-2022), and reviewer of the Asian Journal of Pharmaceutical Research and Health Care, Palgrave Communications, PLOS ONE, Frontiers of Public Health, Economic Alternatives, Scripta Scientifica Salutis Publicae, etc.

She holds several academic and scientific awards, including:

  • Varna Municipality's Scientific Achievement Award in the field of social sciences (2021)
  • Bulgarian Union of Scientists' Scientific Achievement Award in the field of social sciences (2019)
  • Scientific Achievement Award named after Prof. Dr. Miroslav Popov of the Faculty of Public Health, Medical University – Varna (2015)
  • Academic Award 'Blue Ribbon', Medical University – Varna (2014)
  • Varna Municipality's Scientific Achievement Award in the field of social sciences (2013)
