Prof. Teodora Dimitrova, MD, PhD, was born in Gorna Oryahovitsa on 02.08.1974. She graduated in Medicine from MU-Varna in 1998 and in Health Management in 2016. Since 2004, she is an assistant professor at the Department of Hygiene of MU-Varna. She is a specialist in: Occupational Medicine (2006) and Hygiene of Childhood and Adolescence (2019). In 2010 she defended her PhD thesis on "Working conditions and atmospheric pollutants as a risk factor for acute myocardial infarction". She became an Associate Professor and was elected Head of the Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology in 2012 and Professor in the same Department in 2018.
She is the author of the monograph "Marine Occupational Medicine. Psycho-physiological and organizational factors at work at sea. Medical Fitness Examination of Seafarers" (2018, University Press, MU-Varna) and more than 80 publications and many participations in national and international forums.
Her main scientific interests are in the field of occupational medicine, air quality, nutrition and disease prevention in childhood.
She furthered her qualification in the following fields: Marine occupational medicine at the Institute of Marine Occupational Medicine and Tropical Medicine in Gdynia, Poland in 2002; Hygiene, Environment and Occupational Medicine in Skopje, Macedonia in 2011; Leadership in Healthcare at the University of Utrecht's Research Centre for Innovation in Healthcare, the Netherlands in 2015, etc.
She is a scientific supervisor of 9 PhD students, three of whom have successfully defended and graduated in the Master's programmes in Public Health Protection and Control, Health Management, Public Health and Health Care Management.
She is the author of 32 publications and 23 abstracts from different conferences. Her main works are in the field of occupational medicine and medical ecology.
