Bulgaria is a country in southeastern Europe. It is bordered by Romania to the north, Serbia and Macedonia to the west, Greece and Turkey to the south, and the Black Sea to the east. With a territory of 110,994 sq. km. (42,855 sq. mi.) Bulgaria is Europe's 16th-largest country.

Varna
Varna is the third largest city in Bulgaria (with population more than 350 000 people), with an area of 205 sq. km. Its situation on the Northern shore of the Black Sea, along with its richness in natural resources make it one of the famous resorts Europe wide, definitely the largest one in the Black Sea region. Because of its history and its economical and cultural significance, it is often called the Sea Capital of Bulgaria. It also happens to be on the crossroads between Western Europe and the Middle East.

How to get to Varna
Varna international airport is situated approximately 10 km away from the city center. There are two ways of landing at Varna airport:
- By charter flight (usually from May until October) and regular flights
- Via Sofia airport. There are regular every day flights Sofia – Varna. The taxi from Varna airport to the city center is approximately 25 BGN.
It is also possible to get to Varna from Sofia by train. The train station is situated about 20 km away from Sofia airport and the train ticket is round 31 BGN. It takes 7 hours to get to Varna by train.
There are regular bus lines (starting every 2 hours) from Sofia bus station. Sofia bus station is situated next to the train station. The bus ticket is about 34 BGN and the journey lasts about 6 hours.

Best exchange rates are given by the banks and the licensed exchange offices. Some of the exchange offices charge a commission. All payments in Bulgaria are made in Bulgarian leva only, so it is advisable for students to exchange their money as soon as they land in the country (preferably not at the airport).
