XIX International Festival of Red Cross and Health Films

he XIX International Festival of Red Cross and Health Films will be held in the period 16-19 September 2021 in Varna. The first edition of the international film event was in 1965 and was held regularly until 1991, when it was interrupted. In 2014, on a joint initiative of the Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov "- Varna and the National Council of the Bulgarian Red Cross, the festival was restored under the motto "Through humanism towards peace and friendship". During a press conference today, the organizers announced interesting details regarding the program of the event. The main topic of this year's edition is "Pandemic - Society - Cinema". 69 films from 18 countries have been selected to participate in the festival of total receiving 1281 applicants from 101 countries. They are divided into several categories: health, documentaries and feature films. The Rector of Medical University - Varna Prof. Dr. Valentin Ignatov expressed gratitude and addressed the words: “On behalf of Medical University of Varna, as a co-organizer of the International Festival of Red Cross and Health Films, I would like to thank Mr. Ilko Raev for the will in these difficult times to find strength and invest energy in the organization of the festival. We assure you that you have our full support. I wish success to the festival, we will be side by side!”. Apart from being a co-organizer of the festival, MU-Varna will participate in the festival program with 5 documentaries created by MU-Vi.tv in the last 2 years: "Get vaccinated! Be free!", "How dreams grow", "She is no different", "Military Doctor Mission" - Col. Dr. Petar Ganchev" and "The Healer and the Sea - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Stamat Stamatov (1923-2014)”. The screenings for the public will be open: at the entrance of the Sea Garden in Varna and in the new artistic space in the city - ReBonkers. The festival is free of charge and the admission regime will be in strict compliance with anti-epidemic measures. New element within the festival this year is the accompanying event of Dr. Lisa Boeva ​​and Itsko Finci, which will be held on September 15 at 5 pm in ReBonkers. Varna audience will have the opportunity to be acquainted with an interesting lecture on "Decameron", which draws a parallel between the world in the 14th century in Florence and what we are facing at the moment. The charity campaign of the Bulgarian Red Cross "Hot Lunch for Children" will be held during the festival. Its purpose is to support activities related to the purchase and provision of hot lunches to disadvantaged children.
