The 8th Summer School “Introduction to Emergency Care” at MU-Varna Is LaunchedUnder the patronage of the Rector of MU-Varna Prof. Dr. Dimitar Raykov, the 8th Summer School “Introduction to Emergency Care”, traditionally organised by the University and the Student Council, was launched on 18 July with the assistance of University Hospital “St. Marina”–Varna and the Centre for Emergency Medical Care (CEMC)–Varna. Each year the programme of the forum consists of a theoretical and practical module, which are aimed at facilitating the education and training of students from the 5th and 6th year of study in the field of Emergency Medicine and First Aid. In his welcoming address to the participants the Rector Prof. Raykov emphasised that over the years the forum had proven its effectiveness and its annual organisation had been a prerequisite for providing a substantial practical and theoretical knowledge basis, skills and experience for the students at MU–Varna. “I am positive that the theoretical and practical programme of the forum will be focused on major topics related to providing emergency care to critically ill patients,” said Prof. Raykov and wished the organisers to pursue the good traditions in the medical community striving to discover new perspectives for the development and further enhancement of the future doctors. The School was opened by the Chair of the Organising Committee Prof. Lora Georgieva. The event was launched in the Second Auditorium of MU-Varna, Rectorate Building, by a two-day lecture targeted at undergraduate students from all years and programmes of study at MU-Varna. On the first day, the following topics were discussed “Urgently for Emergency Conditions in Otorhinolaryngology”, “Emergency Care for Cases of Drowning and Burns” and “Emergency Cases from Practice”. The programme on 19 July was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Yoto Yotov. Lectures on “Diagnostics and First Aid for Venomous Stings and Bites”, “Recognition and Reactions in Neurological Emergencies” were delivered. The theoretical part was once again concluded with examples of emergency cases arising from the clinical practice. The lecturers are Prof. Dr. Nikolay Sapundzhiev, Dr. Philip Stalovski, Dr. Irina Trifonova, Dr. Goran Arnaudov, Dr. Ahmed Ahmedov, Dr. Desislava Katelieva, Dr. Marieta Yovcheva and Dr. Kristyan Georgiev. The practical part of the Summer School of Emergency Medicine takes place from 20 to 29 July. It is intended only for medical students of the 5th and 6th year of study and is scheduled at the Centre for Emergency Medical Care–Varna and at the emergency departments for adults and children at UMHAT “St. Marina”–Varna.
