Students at Shumen Affiliate of MU – Varna Welcomed the Healing Sunrise of Enyovden

"Early in the morning lecturers and fourth-year students majoring in Nursing at Shumen Affiliate of MU – Varna welcomed the sunrise at 5.33 a.m. and immersed themselves in the magic of Enyovden," said Prof. Sonya Toncheva, Director of Shumen Affiliate. She reminded that on Enyovden (Midsummer's Day) people welcome the sunrise and make a wreath of 77 herbs, with half the herb being put for an unknown disease. It is also called herb-wonder drug (razkovniche – in Bulgarian), because it is believed to have the ability to cure all diseases.

"The first sun rays, the dewy grass and the sorcery power of the herbs of the Shumen Plateau gently caressed the participants in the morning ceremony for health and well-being," added Prof. Toncheva.

Enyovden coincides with the summer solstice. Many of the beliefs and customs are associated with the sun and the cult of the sun. It is believed that on this day the various herbs and spices have the greatest healing power, especially at sunrise. The Director of the Shumen Affiliate at MU – Varna wished all students and lecturers to be healthy throughout the year and never to stop rejoicing the benefits of the miraculous herbs.
