More than 300 students from higher education institutions in Varna are taking part at the 21st Varna Universiade from 10th to 24th April. Event organisers are the Sports Directorate of the Municipality of Varna, the student councils and sports sectors of the six Varna universities.
The tournament of the most popular sport - football took place on 13th and 14th April at the sports facilities of "Mladost" Municipal Sports and Entertainment Complex, and MU - Varna competed with two teams. After the battle for the first place in the groups, team MU - 1 unequivocally defeated the team of UE, achieving a score of 5 : 1.
At the semi-final, team MU - 1 stood up against the team of Technical University - Varna, and the match finished with the score of 3 : 1 in favour of the medics. Team MU - 2 also played extremely well against the team of the University of Economics - Varna, with a final score of 2 : 3.
At the final, team MU - 1 won the match against the team of UE - Varna with the score of 2 : 1 and became the football champion.
The performance of the football players of MU - Varna was absolutely awesome, showing concentration and dynamics in the football game. Georgi Filipov is the football team coach.
On 3rd April in Dobrich, a friendly test match was held between the teams of MU - Varna and Inter Dobrich, which finished with the score of 4 : 0 in favour of the Varna students.
Another test match is scheduled for the end of April with "Shumen" team, which competes in the third division.
The students have already started their preparations for the greatest inter - university competition - the National Universiade, which is to be held in May.
