Students
At the Department of Prosthetic Dental Medicine and Orthodontics the training of dental students from 1st to 6th course, both in Bulgarian and English, is conducted.
The discipline Propaedeutics of Prosthetic Dental Medicine shall be taught during the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th semester with a total horarium of 315 hours (75 academic lecture hours and 240 academic hours of practical exercises). After successfully passing a practical and theoretical semester exam at the end of the second year of their education students continue their study with the discipline Clinic of Prosthetic Dental Medicine during the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th semester with a total horarium of 405 academic hours. (105 academic lecture hours and 300 academic hours of practical exercises). After successfully passing a semester exam in the sixth year of training, a 30 –day state pre-graduation traineeship in the discipline Prosthetic Dental Medicine shall be conducted, and then the State Examination shall be held.
The optional discipline "Denture Implantology" is conducted for 5th course students by Assoc. Prof. Dr. M. Abadzhiev, PhD.
The discipline Orthodontics is studied by 4th and 5th course students with a total horarium of 225 academic hours (75 academic lecture hours, 150 academic hours of practical exercises). Preclinical exercises related to diagnostics methods in Orthodontics and constructing basic orthodontic appliances is conducted for 4th course students. In the fifth year of training students shall accomplish therapeutic activities in patients with mobile apparatus under the supervision of assistant professors. The training shall finish with a practical and theoretical examination. During the sixth year of training a state pre-graduation traineeship in Orthodontics shall be carried out, which lasts 20 days and then the State Examination shall be held.
Training of postgraduates shall be carried out in a 3-year programme, in accordance with the accepted in our country postgraduate training programme in Orthodontics, consistent with the ERASMUS Project.
