Educational activity

In the Department of biochemistry, molecular medicine and nutrigenomics are taught the following disciplines:

  • "Biochemistry" for students of medicine, dental medicine and pharmacy;
  • "Biochemistry and pathobiochemistry" for the specialties "Medical laboratory assistant" and "Assistant pharmacists" at the Medical College and MU-Varna;
  • Elective disciplines "Molecular biology in medicine" for the specialty "Medicine";
  • Elective discipline "Functional food and nutraceuticals" for the specialty "Pharmacy".

A course in biochemistry in English language for students of medicine and dental medicine was developed and introduced during the last years.
Within the framework of a project, financed by the British council from 1998 in partnership with the University in Dundee, Great Britain, innovative methods were introduced in the training of biochemistry.  They include work in groups and student presentations of clinical cases and issues for discussion, development and work with tests in biochemistry. New forms of current progress were introduced together with placement test exam. Postgraduate training in biochemistry is conducted at the Department and there have been five postgraduate students until 2013.
