​State pre-graduate internship schedule 2025/​2026​​


CONDUCTING PRE-GRADUATE INTERNSHIP FOR MEDICAL STUDENTS ABROAD AT MEDICAL INSTITUTIONS, ACCREDITED FOR TRAINING STUDENTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REGULATIONS OF THE RESPECTIVE NATIONAL LEGISLATION


Medical students are provided with an opportunity to conduct a part of their pre- graduate internship during the last (sixth) year of study abroad – under the following conditions:

1. Students are entitled to choose to conduct one or more of the listed below compulsory pre-graduate internships (according to the declaration signed by the respective hospital), with a duration not less than the specified for each internship period:

  • Internal Diseases – 85 calendar days
  • Surgery – 75 calendar days
  • Paediatrics – 51 calendar days
  • Obstetrics and Gynaecology – 50 calendar days

2. The period of the internship shall be from September to the end of August the following year, according to the declaration signed by the respective hospital and according to the schedule for conducting an internship at MU-Varna.

3. Pre-graduate internship abroad shall be conducted at a medical institution accredited for training students in accordance with the regulations of the respective national legislation.

4. The foreign hospital shall select and approve the intern-doctors who will be taken up for internship. It is entitled to set additional requirements to them, such as German citizenship or knowledge of German language, GPA, etc.

5. It is required a declaration for training intern-doctors/individual student intern-doctor to be completed, signed and stamped by the respective hospital abroad.

6. Students shall submit a request/application to the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and the declaration for training (see item 5) before 15th of August and shall start the internship abroad only after obtaining the Dean's permission.

7. Students shall pay the regulated tuition fee at MU-Varna in full. Upon registration for the sixth year they receive a “Record book for the pre-graduate state internship".

8. Students shall fulfil the pre-graduate internship programme and receive certification in their record book by the doctor supervising their internship at the hospital. All manipulations performed by the medical intern-doctor throughout the internship shall be recorded in the record book.

9. Students shall sit for their state examinations at MU-Varna – according to a schedule, approved by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at MU-Varna.

10. The internships in “General Medicine" and “Infectious Diseases, Epidemiology, Hygiene and Social Medicine" shall be conducted at the respective departments of Medical University – Varna.
