The education in Orthodontics at the Department of Orthodontics of the first class of Dentistry at MU Varna starts in September 2008. The first guest lecturer in Orthodontics is Assoc. prof. Laura Andreeva-Gurgurieva, and the first regular assistant professor in Orthodontics is Dr. Hristina Arnautska.
Dr. Sevdalina Yaneva joined the academic team of the department of orthodontics in the second semester of the academic year as a certified assistant professor. In 2009 Prof. dr. Vera Krumova, who has made significant contribution to the development of the students' learning process and the academic development of the assistants in Orthodontics at the Dental Faculty in Varna. She is also the scientific supervisor of the PhD student Dr. Hristina Arnautska. At the beginning of 2010, after a competition, Dr. Dilyana Mineva was accepted as a full-time assistant. A year later, Dr. Yordan Ivanov and Dr. Iliana Atanasova - Golden Hippocrates of the First Class of dentistry in the dental faculty of Varna, were accepted as full-time assistants. At the beginning of 2012 Dr. Ivan Bachvarov was also accepted as a regular assistant, from September 2013 - Dr. Gergana Ivanova. In 2014, after a competition, Dr. Zornitsa Valcheva was accepted as a regular assistant, and from 2015 Dr. Sevdalina Yaneva joined as a regular assistant. Since September 2015 Prof. dr. Vera Krumova, PhD joins as a full time professor at the department.
In 2012 Dr. Dilyana Mineva, DMD and Dr. Yordan Ivanov, DMD, together with Ivan Bachvarov, DMD, one year later, were enrolled for the specialty under the guidance of Dr. Hr. Arnautska, DMD. In the following years, Dr. Gergana Ivanova, Dr. Mila Stoyanova, and Dr. Zornitsa Valcheva were also enrolled for specialization, again under the supervision of Dr. Hr.Arnautska, DMD..
In 2013, Dr. Arnautska obtained her PhD in Orthodontics and since 2014 she has been a Senior Assistant at the Department. In April 2016, Dr. H.Arnautska,DMD, acquired the academic title of "Associate Professor" in Orthodontics.
Since May 2016 the Department of Orthodontics is separated as an independent department with the head Assoc. prof. Dr. Hristina Arnautska, PhD
In March 2016 the first PhD student in Orthodontics - Dr. Ivan Bachvarov, with supervisor Prof. Vera Krumova was enrolled. In June 2016, Dr. Gergana Ivanova and Dr. Zornitsa Valcheva were enrolled as PhD students with supervisor Assoc. prof dr. Hristina Arnautska, PhD
Since 2012 the department has been teaching foreign students in English.
The first State Examination of the first class at the Medical Faculty of Medical Sciences in Varna was held by prof. Vera Krumova, as the first student to pass his state exam received an excellent grade.
In march 2024, Dr. Iliyana Atanasova, PhD, acquired the academic title of "Associate Professor" in Orthodontics and later in 2024 was elected as the new head of the department of Orthodontics.
