The Department of
Pediatrics was established in March 1963. It deployed the first specialized
pediatric clinics outside the capital and the first children's ICU in
northeastern Bulgaria.
The present clinical
structure was formed in 2010 and it includes two clinics: Multi-profile
Specialized Children's Clinic with children's ICU, Neurology and Neonatology
and Specialized Children's Clinic for Clinical Hematology and Oncology. Today
these pediatric clinics are an integral part of the Department of Pediatrics
and Medical Genetics and they are incorporated in the structure of "St.
Marina" University Hospital - Varna, with direction "Pediatrics",
headed by Prof. Dr. Violeta
Yotova.
In 2000 the Training and
Research Sector of Medical Genetics was established at the Department and it was
renamed to Department of Pediatrics and Medical Genetics.
