The Department of Internal Medicine is the largest department at Medical University - Varna, with rich history, academic traditions and exceptional contribution to the development of all areas in Internal Medicine. Its history dates back to the time of the establishment of Higher Medical University - Varna in 1961. Since 2000 six training and research sectors (TRS), with their respective heads, have been established in the structure of the department in order to cover entirely the field of Internal Pathology, to provide more qualitative training and to improve the opportunities for specialization:

- TRS Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition
- TRS Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases
- TRS Nephrology, Dialysis and Toxicology
- TRS Haematology and Hematopoiesis Disorders
