Research activity

The research activity in the department is focused on the main sections of imaging diagnostics, represented in the activity of the imaging clinic and including

1. Neuroradiology

2. Maxillofacial imaging

3. Musculoskeletal imaging

4. Spinal imaging

5. Thoracic imaging

6. Cardiovascular imaging

7. Digestive system imaging

8. Urogenital imaging

9. Pediatric imaging

10. Breast imaging

11. Prenatal imaging – ultrasound and MRI.

12. Emergency imaging

The main diagnostic methods used for the development of the department's scientific and research activities are:

• Computed tomography - examinations of the head, spine, neck, chest and thoracic organs, abdomen and abdominal organs, male and female pelvis, musculoskeletal system, large and peripheral vessels, coronary vessels;

• High-tech CT-assisted examinations - virtual colonoscopy, peripheral angiography, cerebral angiography, coronary angiography, cerebral perfusion,

• Magnetic resonance tomography - 2 1.5 T and 3 T devices are available. Examinations are mainly carried out on the nervous system, musculoskeletal system, spine, abdominal diagnostics, vascular pathology, prenatal diagnostics

• Ultrasound diagnostics (ultrasound) - diagnostics of the head and neck, chest, abdominal and peripheral blood vessels, triplex echographic ultrasound examination of visceral organs, surface structures and joints;

• Bone densitometry to assess bone mineralization in adult and postmenopausal patients.

• DXA of adipose tissue to assess metabolic risk in children.

• Vascular interventional imaging – vascular interventions (local intra-arterial fibrinolysis, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stenting, intra-arterial chemoembolization. Percutaneous contrast study of various vascular systems, incl. angiography;

• Non-vascular interventional imaging – some highly specialized minimally invasive methods for diagnosis or treatment are applied under the control of an imaging method – X-ray, CT, ultrasound, mammography. Biopsies of various organs, percutaneous thermal ablation of lesions with different localization, percutaneous drainages, biliary drainage, placement of percutaneous nephrostomy.

• Prenatal magnetic resonance imaging – progressive and reliable new method for precise diagnosis of congenital anomalies of the CNS, skeleton, POS, etc.
