Dr. Petar Valchanov was born on June 22, 1980, in Varna. He graduated from Dimcho Debelyanov Secondary School – Varna in 1997 and from the Medical University of Varna in 2003. From 2004 to 2015, he worked as a emergency physician the preclinical care of Varna. Between 2005 and 2009, he specialized Psychiatry at St. Marina University Hospital but discontinued for personal reasons. Since April 2016, he has been working as a part-time assistant at the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, and in September 2017, he was appointed as a full-time assistant. In 2018, he began a full-time doctoral program in the department on the topic “Modeling and 3D Printing of Morphologically Accurate Bone Matrix," which he defended on January 31, 2024.
Dr. Petar Valchanov is actively engaged in several areas of medical 3D modeling and three-dimensional printing, including the creation of models for anatomy training, preoperative planning, medical devices, and imaging phantoms. He has produced hundreds of clinical-anatomical models for preoperative planning, personalized trainers, and templates for implant modeling in various surgical specialties. His interests are related to clinical anatomy, radiology, materials science, 3D arts, 3D bio/printing, implantology, personalized and regenerative medicine. He is the initiator and organizer of a laboratory for 3D bio/printing at the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Medical University of Varna. He is also a member of the scientific group “Modeling and Simulations in Medicine."
