Assoc. Prof. Dr. Iliyana Georgieva Atanasova, DMD, PhD obtained master's degree in dental medicine in 2011 at the Medical University of Varna and graduated with honors and awards. She was granted with "GOLDEN HIPPOCRATES" Award as a holder of DIPLOMA MAGNA CUM LAUDE of Alumni 2011 and Diploma "STUDENS OPTIMUS" –Prof. Dr. Slavcho Davidov for excellent results and high academic achievements in the academic, scientific and creative activities of Alumni 2011. In the same year she was appointed as a regular assistant professor at the Department of Orthodontics at the Faculty of Dental Medicine at MU-Varna. In 2019 she was elected as an administrative assistant at the Department of Orthodontics. In 2020 she acquired a specialty in Orthodontics. In 2022 she acquired the scientific and educational degree "Doctor" by defending a dissertation on the topic: " Assessment of individual indicators for orthodontic treatment of children in mixed and permanent dentition". In 2022 after a competition, she held the academic position of "Chief Assistant professor" in the Department of Orthodontics. In 2023, her first monograph on the topic "Determination of age by morphological and physiological characteristics of dental tissues" was published. In 2024, after a competition, she held the academic position of Associate Professor and was elected Head of the Department of Orthodontics at the Faculty of Orthodontics, MU-Varna. In the same year, she also obtained a master's degree in health management and medical and social care at the Faculty of Public Health at MU-Varna. She conducts exercises and lectures for students in the programs of Bulgarian-language and English-language training in the discipline of Orthodontics in the IV and V year and trainee doctors - VI year. She is fluent in English and Russian.
She has over 30 scientific publications in the field of Orthodontics in Bulgarian and foreign editions. Member of BDA, BOS, BOAS, EOS, ADA.
