Assoc. Prof. Darina Kirilova Georgieva-Hristova was born on October 18, 1975, in Varna, Bulgaria. In 1994, she graduated with full honors from the Third High School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences “Acad. Metodiy Popov†in Varna, with a specialization in Biology. She completed her medical degree in 2000 at the Medical University “Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov†– Varna, graduating with distinction and full honors in her state exams.
From 2001 to 2002, she worked as a physician at the Emergency Medical Services in Dobrich. In 2002, after a competitive selection process, she became an Assistant Professor at the Clinic of Neurology, part of the Department of Neurology at the Medical University of Varna. She was promoted to Senior Assistant in 2006 and Chief Assistant in 2011.
In 2010, she obtained a clinical specialty in Neurology, followed by a postgraduate qualification in Clinical Electromyography (EMG) in 2014. Since 2015, she has been Head of the Stroke Unit. In 2016, she defended her doctoral thesis on the topic: “Cardiovascular Autonomic Disorders in Acute Hemispheric Ischemic Stroke – Correlation Studiesâ€, earning the degree of Doctor of Medicine. In 2017, she was appointed Associate Professor.
Assoc. Prof. Georgieva has completed additional professional qualifications, including:

Postgraduate training in Ultrasonographic Diagnostics of the Nervous System

Pedagogical training for instructors from healthcare institutions

She teaches practical classes to students in the Medicine, Dental Medicine, Nursing, and Midwifery programs at the Medical University of Varna. She is also responsible for organizing the summer neurology internship for medical students.
She is fluent in English and Russian and possesses strong computer skills.
Research Interests
Assoc. Prof. Georgieva has broad scientific and clinical interests in cerebrovascular diseases, peripheral nervous system disorders, as well as demyelinating and inflammatory diseases of the nervous system. She maintains a high level of academic engagement and continuously develops her theoretical knowledge and clinical skills in neurology. She actively participates in the academic curriculum and in international, national, and regional scientific events organized by the department.
