Assoc. Prof. Bogomil Petkov Iliev was born on June 11, 1984, in Varna, Bulgaria. In 2003, he graduated from Geo Milev High School of Foreign Languages in Burgas, where he specialized in English language studies. In 2010, he completed his higher education in Medicine at the Medical University of Varna, and in 2012, he obtained a second degree in Healthcare Management.
Since 2011, he has been working at the Department of Neurosurgery at St. Marina University Hospital in Varna. In 2014, he became an Assistant Professor, and in 2018, a Senior Assistant Professor at the Department of Neurosurgery and ENT Diseases at the Medical University of Varna. In 2015, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Endoscope-Assisted Evacuation of Intracerebral Hematomas". In 2018, he obtained his specialty in Neurosurgery. Since 2019, he has also been practicing at St. Marina Medical Center in Varna.
Dr. Iliev has been a member of the Bulgarian Neurosurgical Society since 2015 and of AOSPINE since 2016. Since 2017, he has served as a voting delegate in the General Assembly of the Bulgarian Medical Association in Varna. He has also been a member of the General Assembly of the Medical University of Varna since 2019 and continues to serve in this capacity.
He was awarded a Travel Grant at the 15th World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) World Congress of Neurosurgery in Seoul, Korea (2013), where he presented his dissertation research entitled: “Early Endoscope-Assisted Evacuation of Intracerebral Hematomas – Is This the New Gold Standard?". In 2016, he received the prestigious Young Scientist Award at the 21st Congress of the EuroAcademy Multidisciplinary Neurotraumatology (EMN) held in Novi Sad, Serbia.
Dr. Iliev has completed numerous training courses in neuroendoscopic and neuronavigated surgery, for which he holds the corresponding diplomas and certificates. His scientific interests are reflected in over 90 scientific publications and presentations at international neurosurgical conferences and congresses.
