Assoc. Prof. Evgeniya Dencheva Kalevska, MD, PhD, was born on July 25, 1960, in Burgas, Bulgaria. She completed her secondary education at the Third High School in Varna in 1978, and graduated with honors from the Medical University of Varna in 1986.
From 1986 to 1989, she worked as a pediatrician at the Central Emergency Medical Service in Dobrich. In 1989, she joined the Second Neurological Clinic at St. Marina University Hospital – Varna as a resident. Following a competitive selection process in 1992, she was appointed to the Department for Intensive Care of Neurological Diseases (DICND) at the same clinic. Between 2013 and 2020, she served as Head of the Intensive Care Unit for Neurological Diseases within the Second Neurological Clinic.
Since 2013, Assoc. Prof. Evgeniya Kalevska, MD, PhD has been part of the academic staff of the Department of Neurology and Neurosciences at the Medical University of Varna, initially as an assistant professor. In March 2016, she successfully defended her doctoral thesis titled “Intravenous Thrombolysis in Ischemic Stroke – Clinical Aspects and Correlational Dependencies", earning the degree of Doctor of Medicine. In 2017, she was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in the same department.
Assoc. Prof. Evgeniya Kalevska, MD, PhD is actively involved in the teaching of medical students and midwifery students, delivering lectures and practical training. She has held a recognized medical specialty in Neurology since 1992 and holds certifications in Clinical Electromyography (since 2008) and Ultrasound Diagnostics of the Nervous System (since 2010).
Her professional interests focus on vascular diseases of the central nervous system and intensive care in neurology. Since 2015, she has served as a national consultant in Neurology.
She is fluent in both Russian and English, with strong computer literacy. She maintains a high level of scientific literacy, continually refining her skills in the critical evaluation of scientific evidence and applying a modern, evidence-based approach to diagnostic and therapeutic challenges in clinical practice.
