Born in Varna in 1981. Graduated from the 3rd High School "Acad. M. Popov" in Varna. In 2006, Dr. Desislava Marinova graduated from Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov", Varna with a master's degree in medicine. After a competitive exam in May 2007, she has been appointed as an assistant professor at the Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology (now Dept. of Anatomy and Cell Biology) at the Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov", Varna. In December 2012, Dr. Marinova completed residency in "Anatomy, Histology and Cytology", and in 2014 after a successful viva on the topic "Proliferation and differentiation of progenitor cells in intact spinal cord of adult primates" acquired an educational and scientific degree “doctor of medicine" (PhD). In 2016, she was elected as a chief assistant professor in the department, and in 2024 as an associate professor.
Assoc. Prof. Marinova's scientific interests are in the field of neurogenesis and anatomical variations.
She conducts practical classes in the discipline of Human Anatomy for students of the specialties "Medicine", "Dental Medicine", "Pharmacy", "Nursing", "Dental Technician".
Since 2012, she has been responsible for the dissection sector at the department.
