The Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics is managed by a Head of Department and a Department Council, which is composed of all members of the academic staff.

Competencies of the Department Council:

  1. Develops and submits to the Faculty Councils plans and programs related to the organization of educational and research activities;
  2. Organizes internal defenses of doctoral theses and proposes the establishment of procedures for public defenses;
  3. Makes proposals to the Faculty Council for announcing competition for acquiring the positions of assistant professor, chief assistant professor, associate professor, professor and part-time professors;
  4. Organizes the academic activities in the department;
  5. Discusses matters related to the department's infrastructure and submits proposals for its modernization to the Faculty Council;
  6. Submits proposals for full-time doctoral positions to the Faculty Council;
  7. Assesses the work of PhD students
  8. Approves doctoral student's attestation reports annually;
  9. Conducts at least one annual analysis of the department's scientific activities;
  10. Conducts at least one annual analysis of the exam sessions and discusses the methodology of their conductance;
  11. Conducts at least one annual analysis of the work with the postgraduate students in the department. 

The Head of the Department:

  1. Represents the department before the Academic Council of Medical university - Varna.
  2. Leads the Department Council meetings.
  3. Ensures coordinated actions with similar structures in the University.
  4. Regularly reports their activity to the Department Council.
  5. Is in charge of the academic and research activities of the department (incl. undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and postdoctoral students).
  6. Is responsible for the regular update of curricula and the development of new academic programs, which, after approval by the Departmental Council, are submitted for approval to the Faculty Council;
  7. Based on the decision of the Department Council, makes proposals to the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Medicine for announcing competitions for assistant professors, chief assistant professors, establishing procedures for habilitation, attracting guest-lecturers and part-time assistant professors, requesting doctoral programs and specializations.
  8. Submits proposals to the Faculty Council for members of the examination committees in case of exams or competitions in the department.
  9. Approves requests for leave, business trips and other matters related to the employment rights of the members of the department.
  10. Submits proposals to the Faculty Council for publishing textbooks, manuals, monographs and other issues authored by members of the department as well as for reviewers of these works.
  11. Assigns responsibilities to teaching staff ensuring the proper distribution of the workload among the members of the department each academic year.​
